Summer Updates // M-Note 6.12.20

June 12, 2020

Dear Gathering,

I wanted to update all of you on The Gathering’s plans for ministry this summer.

Beginning next week, we will begin opening our McCausland site for small group ministries with under 50 people. This includes ministries like CareGroups, CoreGroups, NEXT, EXPLORE along with baptisms, weddings and funerals. At this time, we will not yet have outside groups using the building, nor will we be using our other facilities. Groups that need or want to use the building will go through our facilities director. We are going to start slow, with just a few groups using the space. We will be sharing required safety guidelines with all groups and cleaning the spaces regularly after each use. It is a small but exciting step back towards in person ministry.

Many CoreGroups are now meeting in person, usually outside. As groups feel comfortable, we are encouraging them to meet in person while continuing to allow members who are not yet ready to get together to attend virtually. If you are a CoreGroup leader, be on the lookout for an email with more details along with suggested safety precautions. If you have questions about CoreGroups, you can contact Denee Bowers.

Finally, I know many of you are eager to get back to in-person worship. I am as well. I have been meeting regularly with The Gathering’s Executive Leadership Team, our staff leaders, and an advisory team with professionals in our congregation. All of us agree that while we are moving closer to being able to have in-person worship, we are not there quite yet. We will continue to worship online only until at least July 12th.We will regularly assess this decision and update you as summer progresses.

While we aren’t meeting for worship inside our spaces, we are going to try something new. On Thursday evening, June 25th we will have an evening of music + worship outside in our McCausland parking lot. Hold the date, and we will be sharing more details next week along with times and ways to sign up. What I can say now is that it is going to be fun and a great chance to see one another. Stay tuned!

I want to thank all of you that are continuing to stay engaged in online ministry. I am especially grateful that each week we still have so many people worshiping with us online and continuing to support The Gathering’s ministry through giving. Check out our website or download our app for all the ways you can continue to stay engaged.

Go outside and enjoy the sun. I will see you on Sunday!

P.S. This weekend, I will continue my series Reset: When It’s Time to Start Again. We will explore the question, “What do you need to change?” as we resist going back to the “old normal” and move forward towards something new. A great benefit of online worship is that even with summer travel and changes in schedules, you can worship wherever you are and whenever you want. Live services are online at 8, 9, 10:45am and 8pm and you can always find the worship on demand at
