People try a church because someone invites them. People come back because they like worship. People stay because of relationships. And relationships happen when we get into a group.
Most of us know this. It is easy to come to worship and leave without really meeting other people. That is one of the reasons why we urge people to join a CoreGroup. Groups are where we make friends. Groups are where we receive and give support. Groups are where we explore the Bible, share our perspectives, and learn from one another. Groups are where we share what is happening in our lives and pray for one another. Groups are how we grow in faith and where our faith comes to life.
That is why we talk about them so much here at The Gathering. Last week, we had a launch party for all of our CoreGroups and Wellness Groups. We have over 100 groups that are meeting weekly. There is a group each day of the week, at almost any time, and in most neighborhoods around the region. CoreGroups have a common curriculum that follows the sermons you hear on Sunday. Wellness Groups are shorter term and gather people who are wrestling with a common issue. While you can join a group anytime, this is the season groups are starting, and it’s a great time to try them out.
We have nearly 1000 people involved in groups. If you haven’t yet signed up for one, I urge you to consider it. Even if you have attempted a group in the past, I encourage you to give it another try until you find the right fit. You can explore all of the groups online or on the Gathering app (click Group Life and then Discover a Group). If you aren’t sure what group to try, or need help, reach out to your site pastor, and they can help you.
Groups start meeting the week of September 7th. I know for some of you joining a group is a stretch. But remember, stretching is how you grow. So, I hope you will take that step and try it! When you find a group that works, it will absolutely change your relationship with the church, with others, and with God. I promise.
This weekend, I will be finishing our series Boomers to Zoomers: Bridging the Generation Gap. This has been a fun series, and I can’t wait to end by speaking about Baby Boomers and what they can teach us about our faith. You can check out and share all the messages in this series here. The momentum at The Gathering has been incredible, and this will be a great weekend to invite a friend. So do it!
Have a great weekend, and I will see you in church on Sunday!
Peace,
Matt
