Title: Peace Takes Root

Scripture:

“The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom. Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy. The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon; they will see the glory of the Lord, the splendor of our God” (Isaiah 35:1-2 NIV)

My Reflection

These verses remind me of that final scene in The Lion King. You know the one—where everything is on fire after the battle between Simba and Scar, but then the rain comes and heals the land. Grass sprouts from cracked earth; animals re-gather around the once-empty wells; and lush foliage blooms across the savanna.  It’s a beautiful image of abundance and harmony, soothing the desolation we’d witnessed under Scar’s reign.

Our bodies exhale. The scene radiates peace.

Similarly, Isaiah 35 shifts us from the devastation in the chapter before into a world of redemption and new life. But the peace didn’t come easily. In both instances, peace flows from justice—from righting the wrongs that prevailed. Peace flows from restoring dignity, hope, and resources to the inhabitants of that land.

We currently live in a land of desperation and fear. Humans are stripped of dignity, hope, and resources every day. Injustice still prevails in our systems and structures.
We are living in an Isaiah 34 chapter, yet something in us yearns for the peace of Isaiah 35. Justice, at its heart, is about restoring what’s been broken between people, creation, and God.
It’s possible—we can feel it in the deep longings of our souls.

So how do we help shift the world toward it?  Through connection.

When we reconnect with God, with one another, and within ourselves, creation flourishes—relationships mend, souls heal, and peace takes root.

And the land—like our hearts—cannot help but sing when justice and peace meet.

My Prayer:

God of restoration, teach us to be peacemakers who pursue justice and nurture connection. Where the ground is dry, help us water it through compassion, empathy, and relationship. Reconnect us to your Spirit, to one another, and to the world you love, so peace may bloom among us. Amen.

Reflection Question:

  • Where is God inviting you to reconnect—in your faith, your relationships, or your community—so that justice and peace can take root and blossom?
