The Repairer

Scripture:

Colossians 2:13–15; Matthew 5:23–24

13 When you were dead because of the things you had done wrong and because your body wasn’t circumcised, God made you alive with Christ and forgave all the things you had done wrong. 14 He destroyed the record of the debt we owed, with its requirements that worked against us. He canceled it by nailing it to the cross. 15 When he disarmed the rulers and authorities, he exposed them to public disgrace by leading them in a triumphal parade. Colossians 2:13-15

23 Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, 24 leave your gift at the altar and go. First make things right with your brother or sister and then come back and offer your gift.
Matthew 5:23-24

Reflection:

If Christ has borne what separates us from God, then reconciliation becomes a way of life. Colossians speaks of God canceling what stood against us; Jesus in Matthew connects worship with repair. The cross frees us not only from guilt, but for repair to make amends, tell the truth, practice forgiveness and justice.

Practice (small step):

Choose one “repair action” you can do this week:

• Send an apology (short, specific, no excuses).
• Make a reconciliation plan.
• Ask, “How did that land on you?”
• Begin a hard conversation with a gentle opening.

Prayer:

Oh Lord, this feels heavy. Bring to my mind and heart people and situations that I might repair. Then give me courage and wise counsel to seek reconciliation. Amen and thank you.
