Scripture:
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. - Joshua 1:9
Reflection:
It can feel scary to step out in support of any cause, particularly when it’s not popular with the people around you. Working for justice and equality for people who have felt like equality is beyond their grasp is usually hard and lonely work. It may feel like the people around us will love us less or kick us to the curb if we take a stand that they don’t agree with. But Jesus never called us to be safe or comfortable. It’s in our discomfort that we often grow most. Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s a response to it. What do you fear might happen if you step out in support of justice? What do you need courage to overcome? How might your family and friends respond if you take a stand?
