“A shoot will grow up from the stump of Jesse; a branch will sprout from his roots. The Lord’s spirit will rest upon him, a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of planning and strength, and spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord.”

Isaiah 11:1-2

Reflection
It can be hard and scary to find support in times of trouble. Aren’t we wanting someone that demonstrates wisdom and understanding, strategic planning and strength? Some knowledge and fear of the Lord probably wouldn’t be traits that turn us off. Isaiah’s passage is offering more depth to the name “Wonderful Counselor” given to Jesus in chapter 9. How might my day be better if I allowed myself to start with some time imagining sitting across from Jesus in a comfortable chair - just the right height, tissues in sight and easily accessible if needed, perfect lighting, some favorite art hung on the wall and an awareness that He is willing to spend as much time as needed with no additional cost.

Prayer
Wonderful Counselor, Thank you for offering wisdom and guidance. May I ask questions when I don’t understand and be intentional about the direction of my day. Help me know your presence in my life.
