Questioning Jesus
Day 21
Saturday, December 18
“Jesus responded, ‘Go, report to John what you hear and see. Those who were blind are able to see. This who were crippled are walking. People with skin diseases are cleansed. Those who were deaf now hear. This who were dead are raised up. The poor have good news proclaimed to them. Happy are this who don’t stumble and fall because of me.’”
Matthew 11:4-6
Reflection
In the verse prior, John asks if Jesus is the real deal and here we see the response. Is it possible that Jesus is annoyed to report his deeds to his cousin? John had already baptized Jesus back in chapter 3 with a voice from heaven supporting the action.
We don’t know what Jesus was feeling but he does end with “Happy are those who don’t stumble and fall because of me.” Is this the verse for those of us not in a stumbling or falling moment of life? Let it be a reminder to point our gratitude towards Christ when life is happy.
Prayer
Jesus, thank you for days of healing and happy days. May I not forget who you are and what you freely give. Amen.
