I am thrilled to announce that next week my newest book, The Methodist Book of Daily Prayer, will be released! I’ll confess something...I really want everyone to get a copy. Let me explain why.
I write books, but I am not a good self-promoter. I always feel weird saying, “Look at my new book, please buy it.” That is part of what an author must do, but it isn’t my thing. But this book is different. I wrote this book because I needed it, and a lot of other people may need it as well.
As Christians, we talk all the time about praying, spending time with God, and having a daily devotional habit. But, let’s be real – it is hard. We don’t have time, we don’t know where to start, we don’t know what to do, and it is hard to make this habit stick. That is why I wrote this book.
The Methodist Book of Daily Prayer, is simple to use, accessible no matter your experience with scripture, and each devotional can be read in a few minutes. It has weekly themes with 5 days of devotions. Each day has a morning and evening devotion including a short scripture, a brief reflection, and a prayer. The prayers offer you space for reflection or even journaling and change each week. The reflections are varied, diverse, relevant, and theologically rich.
We all are busy trying to get things done, do our work, and make time for friends and family. This leaves us little time for God. This book is meant to help us stay connected. Spending a few minutes each day with God can enhance and strengthen our ability to do all the other things we want to do in a day. That is what this book can help you to do, and that is why I hope everyone gets a copy. Try it out, let me know what you think, and consider buying an extra to give to someone else this holiday. The book is available for preorder on Cokesbury, on Amazon, locally at Novel Neighbor, or anywhere you get your books.
Even better, The Gathering is hosting a launch event for the book Thursday, November 16, at 7pm, at our McCausland Site. We will have dessert and drinks, and I will briefly speak about the book, what it is, and how to use it to stay connected. There will be copies of the book available to buy, and I will be signing books that night. It would mean so much to me if you come and bring a friend along with you. You can find out the details and register here.
I want to thank all of you that helped inspire this book by asking me, “Matt, do you know of a good daily devotional?” I hope it is meaningful for you and helps you stay more connected to God in your daily life.
Peace,
Matt
P.S. To see a sample devotion or to follow other news about the book, follow me on Instagram, TikTok, or my public Facebook page.
P.P.S This weekend in worship, we’ll be starting our new series ONE: Finding Unity in a Divided World. I hope to see you there, and don’t forget to “fall back” one hour Saturday night/Sunday morning!
